Three years ago the New Mexico Dept. of Game & Fish implemented a new game management plan to improve the overall quality of our deer herd here in southern New Mexico. One of the more notable changes was to eliminate the “over the counter” tags, and go to a limited entry drawing, reducing the total number of hunters by nearly 75%. Reduced hunter numbers along with above average rainfall over the past four years have resulted in a notable improvement of both quality and quantity of our muledeer. There is also a healthy bear population in the area and that tag can be purchased over the counter.* With the guaranteed outfitter quota the drawing odds are well over 100% in the outfitter pool. This enables us to offer a quality guaranteed tag muledeer hunt at a very reasonable price to any hunter who books this hunt by the April 9, 2008 application deadline.
